The Childhood Memory Jogger

Unlock to Download
  • The “Before 12” Rule: To meet UK diagnostic criteria, we need evidence that traits were present in childhood.
  • Reading the Code: ADHD often looks like being a “chatterbox,” “dreamy,” or “not reaching potential.”
  • The Goal: To move past stereotypes and find the real-world history of your brain.

The School Report “Code”

If you still have your old school reports, look for these common phrases used by teachers who didn’t yet have the vocabulary for ADHD:

  • “Has so much potential, if only they would apply themselves.”
  • “Frequently daydreams or seems to be in their own world.”
  • “Consistently forgets their PE kit, homework, or books.”
  • “A pleasure to have in class, but talks too much.”

The “Hidden” Signs in Girls & Quiet Kids

ADHD doesn’t always look like running around a classroom. For many, it looks like:

  • The Perfectionist: Spending 4 hours on a 20-minute task because you are terrified of making a “silly” mistake.
  • The Social Chameleon: Watching other children intensely to learn how to “act normal” or when to laugh.
  • The “Messy Desk” Syndrome: Your locker or bag was a “black hole” of loose papers and half-finished projects.
