We give you the option to share your assessment outcome with your GP. While we recommend this as part of standard clinical practice to support your ongoing care, it is not mandatory.

Before your assessment begins, we will ask for your preference regarding GP communication and fully respect your decision to include or exclude them. In the rare instance where a critical clinical need requires us to involve your GP for safety reasons, we will discuss this with you directly.

It is worth knowing that most GPs respond positively once they receive a formal clinical report. If you have had a difficult experience with your GP in the past, a diagnosis backed by a comprehensive specialist report can sometimes change that dynamic.

What About Medication? Do I Need My GP for That?

In the UK, a specialist must initiate medication for ADHD as it is a controlled substance. At Lucid ADHD, if we recommend medication following your assessment, our Independent Prescriber can initiate your prescription privately. This does not require your GP.

Once your dose is stable through the titration process, your GP will typically take over prescribing through a shared care agreement.

This means your GP manages your ongoing prescription, which is more convenient and often more cost-effective for you long term.

If your GP declines to enter into a shared care agreement, Lucid ADHD can discuss private prescribing options with you so that you are never left without support.
